Donation Drive for Children Affected by War By Kelly (P6 Tolerance)
We are all aware of the conflict between the Israelis and Palestinians. It was a sad time when Israel and a group called Hamas fought in the Gaza Strip. Many people were hurt and buildings were damaged. The fighting was because of disagreements that had been there for a long time. People around the world prayed for peace and safety for everyone.
I became curious about it and after reading deep into the various articles, I was horrified to learn that many innocent children had lost their lives and several were severely wounded. I was deeply moved by the situation and wanted to extend help, even if it was just a drop in the ocean. I wanted to help the suffering children; children that might even be as old as me. With this thought in mind, I started a donation drive. The drive was on from 7th December to 11th December 2023. I also shared the ground reality with the students.
It was very pleasing to see that the children received the information with much grace, sympathised with the situation and stepped forward for help. The students donated generously. The collection was handed over to the Red Cross Society of Indonesia. It was a great relief when the war finally ended on 18 January 2024 and on 21st January 2024, Israel completely withdrew its troupes from the Gaza strip.
This decision of mine has added a new purpose in my life: to be there for people whenever need arises.
Once again, I would like to thank everyone for supporting the cause the extending help and making this dream turn into a reality.
